“A Brief History of Jewish Dance”

A multimedia presentation/lecture at the new award-winning Michigan Avenue
building of the
Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, Chicago as
part of the Solomon Goldman Lecture Series.
Dancing has been a part of weddings wherever Jews have lived.
In fact, according to the Talmud, dance is an obligation. In this multimedia program,
Judith Brin Ingber reveals the role of dance in Judaism. With rare illustrations
and musical excerpts, she reveals dance traditions and transformations in places
such as Ethiopia, Morocco, Yemen, Germany, Russia and Israel.
Following the Q&A, Ms. Brin Ingber will lead Sephardic and
Ashkenazic wedding dances for those interested in learning them.

Judith Brin Ingber
Choreographer and dancer Judith Brin Ingber has lectured about dance in venues
from the Royal War Museum in London to the International Contemporary Dance Festival
in Silesia, Poland. A Humanities Faber Fellow at Princeton University, she is
the author of Victory Dances, the Story of Fred Berk, and editor of the forthcoming
Perspectives on Israeli and Jewish Dance.

“Through Tears to Joy”

“Through Tears To Joy,” a dramatic rendering of Eastern European
Jewish weddings, will be performed twice on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008 at the Minneapolis
Sabes JCC, featuring Twin Cities’ performers klezmer musician Judith Eisner
with her ensemble Classic Klezmer; vocalist David Jordan Harris; storyteller Carla
Vogel and Jewish dancer Judith Brin Ingber. Highlighting Eastern European style
music, dance and story telling, the original performance, is a special event of
the JCC’s Center for Arts and Jewish Humanities. For more information contact

"Peace
in the House"
Judith performs with
5 other dancers and 6 musicians in Voices of Sepharad's current theater, music
and dance evening, portraying the rich relationship of neighborliness between
Sephardic Jews and Arabs during the last several hundred years. The first performances
premiered at The Southern Theater in their autumn season of 2004. For more information
