“A Brief History of Jewish Dance”
Sunday, January 20, 2008

Sunday, January 20, 2008, 2:00 PM
A multimedia presentation/lecture at the new award-winning Michigan Avenue building of the
Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies, Chicago as
part of the Solomon Goldman Lecture Series.

Dancing has been a part of weddings wherever Jews have lived. In fact, according to the Talmud, dance is an obligation. In this multimedia program, Judith Brin Ingber reveals the role of dance in Judaism. With rare illustrations and musical excerpts, she reveals dance traditions and transformations in places such as Ethiopia, Morocco, Yemen, Germany, Russia and Israel.

Following the Q&A, Ms. Brin Ingber will lead Sephardic and Ashkenazic wedding dances for those interested in learning them.
