Guest artists:
dancers Joe Spencer, Canae Weiss and Robert Haarman Blurring the lines between ancient and comtemporary, these provocative dances bring us poignant and dramatic examples of human triumph. Thirst tells the ancient Middle Eastern tale of Judith, a woman spurred into action against powerful, malevolent rulers who threatened the lives and security of her community. As armies surrounded her paralyzed city she was driven to surprising solutions. The evening also features a reprisal of Hagars Midrash, the legendary Biblical story of the Egyptian concubine. Here, Brin Ingber blends current issues with Hagars saga of redemption. Two other premieres include The Come Back Performance of Bari Simon, based on the true story of a Sephardic dancer extrordinaire and Shiviti: A Hebraic Mandala. The myths portrayed through powerful original music and evocative dance offer hope and solace amidst todays unease and disillusionment. Choreographer/dancer
Judith Brin Ingber, long associated with Voices of Sepharad -- the troupe specializing
in dance and music of Jews from Arab countries -- is also known for her dance
drama And The Walls Come Tumbling Down about Black / Jewish relations,
created with Mary Easter. Judith lived in Israel for five years where she was
assistant to the director of Inbal Dance Theater. Photos:
